You wont believe it, Chubby Checker's 'The Twist', has been awarded The No 1. Song in the 50 Years Of Billboard Hot 100 charts. It has been awarded the most popular single ever.

Elvis Presley And The Beatles were not even among the Toppers. They were not even near the Top 5 list. People were really surprised with Checker's taking the Top.

"I'm glad they've finally recognized it.", Checker's was quoted as saying. He said The Twist  is the only song that has made people dance 'apart from the beat'.

"Anyplace on the planet, when someone has a song that has a beat, they're on the floor dancing apart to the beat, and before Chubby Checker, it wasn't here, and I think that has a lot to do with me being on the charts," he said.

On the Billboard Hot 100 Santana's "Smooth", feat. Rob Thomas, was on No 2. followed by Bobby Darin's "Mack The Knife", which was on No 3. Leann Rimes "How do I Live",  was on No 4. and Los Del Rio's "The Macarena",  on No 5.

The Beatles were seen on No 8. and surprisingly Mariah Carey was in list of Top 10 coming on No 9. Geoff Mayfield, director of the Bilboard Top Charts did admit that some fans might not be satisfied with the rankings, but this is the truth.

Checker's 'The Twist' was awarded the Top Song as it as the only song which came twice on No 1. in two different chart runs. Checker's was really happy and said he was gratified that the Billboard noted the popularity of its song and him.
